Yoga is often said to build strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body. According to the American Osteopathic Association, other physical benefits of yoga include: increased flexibility, muscle strength and tone. It also improves respiration, energy and vitality, it helps maintain balanced metabolism and circulatory health.

However, aside from the physical benefits, yoga can also help manage stress levels. Yoga often incorporates meditation and breath work, these are key practices that help improve a persons overall well being.

The physical practice has countless benefits, helping condition the body, the energetic body, the mind and soul. As the student begins to dive into their practice, they often start to use such principles learned on their yoga mat in the world around them, exploring the meaning of mindfulness. Please be aware that everyone at our studio are on different parts of their journey, we ask that you please respect their choices and privacy inside and outside of their studio.

Here are some common terminology you might hear in class or in the studio.

OM: it signifies the essence of the ultimate reality and consciousness. It is also believed to be the vibration of the universe and represents the infinite or universal consciousness. When chanting the sound of OM at the beginning or end of a class, it creates harmony and unity among all present.

NAMASTE: Nama means bow, as means I, and te means you. Therefore, namaste literally means "I bow to you.” Namaste is usually spoken with a slight bow and hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointing upwards, thumbs close to the chest. This gesture is called Añjali Mudrā (prayer hands).

ASANA: An asana is a body posture or a pose in hatha yoga. The poses or postures vary from reclining, standing, inverting, twisting, and balancing. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali define "asana" as "a position that is steady and comfortable”. In Sanskrit just about every pose/posture has the word asana in it: TadASANA (Mountain Pose), SukASANA (Easy Pose), SavASANA (Corpse Pose), UstrASANA (Camel Pose) and so forth.

SAVASANA: Corpse Pose, the final pose in the practice of yoga. This resting pose is taken at the end of practice. The teacher will guide you into this pose, which is considered the most important pose. Here you lay on your back and relax your body allowing the practice to settle and relaxing your body and mind. Savasana can range anywhere between 5-15min depending on the length of the class.

PRANAYAMA Prana means “life force energy”, yama means “control”, therefore “Controlled Life Force Energy” or breath work. Pranayama happens when we pay attention to our breath and re-engage it with intention. Listen to the teacher, listen to the breath cues, stay present and breathe.

ARRIVAL: Doors are locked at all times. Please arrive up to 15min prior to the start of class.

LATE POLICY: No late entry! Classes always starts ON TIME, there is no admittance once class starts. Once the curtains are closed, no more admittance.

EARLY ARRIVAL: Teachers allow students into the studio 15min prior to the start of class, until the actual class start time.

EARLY DEPARTURE: We prefer that you stay through the entirety of the class. Should you have to leave early, please always notify the teacher prior to the start of class. And please leave before Savasana starts.
